Scenario
15 year old sophomore girl, Stephanie Davis, attends Madison High School. She asked her parents to take her to the emergency room. Earlier that afternoon before being admitted, she was at her varsity swim meet competing in the 50 meter freestyle. After her race, she began to have abdominal pain. The pain progressively got worse and she was unable to compete in her last event, the 4 x 100 medley freestyle relay. Before she was able to ask her coach to leave, she dropped to her knees writhing in pain.
Task
As Stephanie's physician, you and your team of doctors are to gather and synthesize information to create a diagnosis for Stephanie. Organize the evidence you collect by using the checklist provided. Next, you will be filling out 3 graphic organizers (Part 1, Part 2, and Final). For each graphic organizer you will need to include a diagnosis (CLAIM), your symptoms (EVIDENCE), and causes of symptoms (REASON). Some reasons can be found in the information provided (Patient Interview, Physical Exam, Blood Tests Results, Stool Culture Results, Endoscopy Results, and Biopsy Results) and some reasons you will have to search on the internet. Make sure you REASONS are logical and logically link your EVIDENCE to you CLAIM.
